HANRAD was founded in 2006 when Barry Radford travelled to the remote mountain areas in Guizhou, home to the many ethnic minorities’ people of China, on a mission to discover the cultural and social significance of these cultures. The HANRAD brand’s cultural DNA is rooted in the wonderful experiences he had exploring the region and the interactions with the varied cultures. The cultural perspective have naturally expanded to the field of his collections of vintage and antique textiles which wowed audiences through unique exhibitions in Shanghai, Japan and Sydney.

In 2016 HANRAD, in collaboration with German based Chinese artist Chen Xin, initiated the Art Rug programme and subsequently the HANRAD BESPOKE RUGS brand was officially born. The newly established brand was recognized widely by the art and design communities and loved by well-known artists and galleries which quickly formed a circle of amazing artists and clients.

HANRAD’s unique interpretation of original artwork combines the best of craftsmanship, use of colour and high quality materials to create bold design that have earned it a reputation for creating Art Rugs that capture the essence and energy of the original works.

In January 2020, HANRAD BESPOKE RUGS showcased a collection of its Art Rugs in its first ever international exhibition at the MAISON & OBJET Fair in PARIS. It was a huge success! We received amazing response from European interior designers and world-class media as well as creative directors from Dubai, Hong Kong, India and China. 《Marie Claire》 French praised HANRAD as the “marque de tapis d’exception” , and the London-based top industry magazine 《COVER》 will feature an editorial on HANRAD BESPOKE RUGS in its March 2020 issue. Hans Fonk, the founder of OBJEKT INTERNATIONAL magazines has given amazing support to HANRAD BESPOKE RUGS and has been proudly sharing our story and designs with its readers spread over 80 countries.

Such success has just reinforced the strong belief that what makes us unique is the fact that art and culture are embedded into our brand DNA. We will continue to develop and stay true to our vision, creating the finest quality products that are truly exceptional for the interiors of the discerning client.
