HANRAD was commissioned to design a rug for a private client who has a holiday house in Hangzhou. The city of Hangzhou is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in China. Its long history has been associated with the greatest poets, classic literature, finest silk, high tea, master artists and of course the Song style of architecture.

HANRAD was inspired by its amazing gardens and ancient landscape. The background design uses the traditional patterns found in the wooden window frames. The lushness of the local setting is highlighted through the use of the vibrant colours and the misty atmosphere is reflected in the depiction of the mountains and landscape within the window pane design. This design reflects the true beauty of Hangzhou in a subtle way capturing the mystery and magic of Hangzhou.
